Statement on Coronavirus / COVID-19
Updated April 13, 2020
SMCO is currently working to reschedule Nathan Chan’s performance of Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 1, originally scheduled for May 29, for the coming 2020-2021 Season. As we must continue social distancing to limit the spread of the coronavirus / COVID-19, we regret that SMCO must go on hiatus for the remainder of our current season. A full announcement detailing our upcoming 2020-2021 Season will soon be released.
The musicians of SMCO are part of an industry that is one of the most negatively affected by this disaster, and our freelancers will be hit particularly hard. If you have the means, please consider donating to a relief fund for artists during this extremely challenging time, such as Ijeoma Oluo's Seattle Artists Relief Fund. Additionally, when you offer your financial support to SMCO it empowers our orchestra to continue hiring these musicians in the future, and also supports the fees SMCO pays to composers, designers, recording engineers, venue staff, and many more industry professionals who will experience the worst of this disruption.
In this uncertain time, we are profoundly grateful for our community’s ongoing commitment to the arts. We look forward to the time when live music performance can once again uplift and enrich life in the Pacific Northwest. As we all remain in home isolation, we ask that you do the same in order to protect yourself and others. We wish you safety and good health.
Warm Regards,
Geoffrey Larson
Music Director
