Two acclaimed guest artists perform in Seattle for the first time: flutist Rachel Blumenthal (Sarasota Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Chicago Symphony) and oboist David Fitzpatrick (Artistic Director, Incidental Chamber Players). Works of Barber, Golijov, Tchaikovsky, and Bernstein form a more powerful, wordless response to the latter composer's now-ubiquitous quote, "This shall be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before." Ms. Blumenthal will perform Bernstein's powerful Halil, composed in honor of a young Israeli flutist Yadin Tanenbaum who was killed at the Suez Canal during the 1973 Yom Kippur war.
